9th March - Editing/Manipulation of Photos

I had a little extra time this week, so I decided to crack on and edit my photos - making me ahead of time! I chose a selection of the photos that I thought would be most appropriate and used Photoshop to edit them.

During the photo-shoot I realised I had forgotten to ask the model to paint her nails red - to match her lips and add to the connotation of the red. However, I decided to try and edit her nails in order to make them red, I used the 'magic wand' to select the areas I wanted to fill and then used the 'paint bucket' to fill her nails with the colour I wanted. It worked best in the photo featured below - in this photo I also got rid of the plug socket seen in the original on the bottom left corner. The photo is a mid-shot, so I could use it any of the pages I need to make.

This photo is a slightly closer mid-shot, I don't want to use this as my cover photo as I would find placing the cover lines difficul as there is little space around the model. In this photo (seen below) I have attempted to edit out the model's 'fly-away hair', to do this I used the 'healing brush' to replace the hair with the background colour and the 'paint brush' to colour over the hair. Here is the photo:

In almost all of the photos I edited out any blemishes on the model's face to ensure a clarity of the image, I did this by using the 'healing brush'. This can be seen in the image below:

I also altered the saturation of some photos, like the one below. I did this in order to create a more natural colour skin, as my model was rather pale.
The photo is a medium close up, I could use this image in the main article. However, I think it looks like it could be the cover of an artists album, like Kelly Clarkson's cover for her new album Stronger Nicole Sherzinger's album Killer Love both featured below:

I used different effects on some of the photos to distort them, but I decided it didn't add much to the photo as they were too dark, or just a little strange! Here they are anyway:

Cracked Effect
Dark Strokes Effect
Grain Effect
Darken/Lighten Effect
I have decided not to use the photos with these effects on, as I don't believe they would look good in my magazine as they have all been made too dark or don't look good enough quality that I want. However, it was good to attempt these edits, so that I could ensure that the photos wouldn't have looked better edited further.

I edited the photos I took of Laura outside, but I considered the overall look of my magazine and thought hard about whether the photos would suit the corporate style. I decided the photos feaured too much colour and it didn't convey the notion that the model was a musician. Therefore I decided to just use the images from the first photoshoot.
