9th March - Cover and Main Article Photoshoot

This week I took photos of my sister for the front cover and main article of my music magazine. Here is a contact sheet of some of the photos that I took:

I styled my sister in a 'rock chick' style, I put her in mostly black clothes - as the colour connotes a dark and moody attitude (stereo-typically adopted by rock artists). We tried three different tops, so that we could choose which photos looked best, and I knew that on proffesional photoshoots there is often a change in clothes. Most of the photos I decided were best were when she was wearing the "Beetle" top. The contrast of the white and black made it stand out, which I think looked good. I curled her hair and back-combed it to create volume, as rock stars usually have 'wild' hair, echoing their character. Her eye make-up was dark and bold again to represent a moody character. Her lips bright red, the red could be interpreted as a sign for danger, or lust. In some of the shots there is an electric guitar, as I had planned. The addition of this prop clarifies the fact that the magazine is a rock music magazine. It also adds to the character of the model.

I was unsure of how many images I would need - I was pretty sure I had taken enough and a wide range of my sister acting as the model. However, I wanted to ensure that I had options. Therefore, I did a second photoshoot (on a smaller scale) with my friend Laura. At the time the weather had picked up so I decided to use the natural light as a feature and use the bright blue sky to contrast with the vivid green of the grass and trees. Here is a contact sheet of some of the photos I took outside:

I chose this day to do the shoot because of the weather but mostly because of the clothes Laura was wearing, she looked very on trend and I thought it would suit the 'rock' image I was portraying in my magazine.
