24th February - Music Magazine Demographics

In order to understand who I should aim my music magazine at I have looked into the demographics of other music magazines. The demographics can be identified easily by looking at a magazines ideology.

Q magazine's ideology states that "Q's audience is composed of passionate, engaged and open minded music fans driven to continually discover new music - and to use this lust for discovery to influence their friends. The audience is split 75% male to 25% female and is affluent (with 68% ABC1)". ABC1 are the socio-economic groups: A = upper middle-class, B = middle class and C1 = lower middle class.

NME's ideology states that "the NME promotes the consumption of new indie music. The audience is centred around 70% male. It focuses heavily on acts that are not yet comercially sucessful and aims to promote new music and artists".
The audience statistics is that around 70% of the audience is male and 30% female. Also more young people aged between 15-30 purchase this magazine.

Kerrang's ideology states that the magazine is targeted at "young, individually minded and passionate consumers, an audience defined by attitude, passion and loyalty".

After this research I have decided my magazine will have the demographic of males and females from late teens to late twenties. After the data I receive from the questionnaire I will narrow the target age.
